محمود إلسولي هو رئيس ومدير مختبر معهد ELI. يعمل أستاذًا باحثًا في المركز الوطني لأبحاث المنتجات الطبيعية ، ومعهد أبحاث العلوم الصيدلانية ، وأستاذ الصيدلانيات في كلية الصيدلة بجامعة ميسيسيبي. الدكتور الشحلي هو مدير مشروع الماريجوانا في جامعة ميسيسيبي ، الذي يموله المعهد الوطني لتعاطي المخدرات. حصل الدكتور محمود إلسولي على درجة البكالوريوس. في الصيدلة والكيمياء الصيدلانية وعلى ماجستير. في الصيدلة والعلوم الصيدلانية من جامعة القاهرة ، القاهرة ، مصر ، ودكتوراه. في العقاقير من جامعة بيتسبرغ. وهو حاصل على البورد الأمريكي للطب الشرعي (BCFM) والكلية الأمريكية لفاحصي الطب الشرعي (BCFE). يمتلك الدكتورمحمود إلسولي أكثر من 30 براءة اختراع تتعلق بمعالجة واختبار وكشف العقاقير المخدرة إلى جانب براءات اختراع أخرى تتعامل مع المنتجات والتركيبات الطبيعية النشطة بيولوجيًا لعلاج السرطان وغيرها في مجال التشخيص. قام بتأليف أكثر من 250 مقالًا علميًا وأكثر من 200 عرض تقديمي في الاجتماعات العلمية للجمعيات المهنية فيما يتعلق باكتشاف الأدوية وتحليلها والتمثيل الغذائي ، وتتناول العديد من مقالاته قضايا الطب الشرعي لتعاطي المخدرات. يقدم باستمرار نتائج أبحاثه في المؤتمرات العلمية الوطنية والدولية. وهو عضو في العديد من الجمعيات العلمية العلمية وقد تم الاعتراف به من قبل The Scientist (17 أبريل 1995) و Science Watch (يناير 1995) باعتباره ثاني أكثر المؤلفين الاستشهاد بهم في علوم الطب الشرعي في العالم للفترة 1981-1993. تم الاعتراف بالدكتورمحمود إلسولي أيضًا في مجلة علم السموم التحليلي (عدد أكتوبر 2004) باعتباره واحدًا من أفضل عشرة مؤلفين (الثالث والرابع) الأكثر استشهادًا والمؤلفين الأكثر غزارة في المجلة بين عامي 1981 و 2003.

This book highlights current Cannabis research: its botany, authentication, biotechnology, in vitro propagation, chemistry, cannabinoids biosynthesis, metabolomics, genomics, biomass production, quality control, and pharmacology. Cannabis sativa L. (Family: Cannabaceae) is one of the oldest sources of fiber, food and medicine. This plant has been of interest to researchers, general public and media not only due to its medicinal properties but also the controversy surrounding its illicit use. Cannabis has a long history of medicinal use in the Middle East and Asia, being first introduced as a medicine in Western Europe in the early 19th century. Due to its numerous natural constituents, Cannabis is considered a chemically complex species. It contains a unique class of terpeno-phenolic compounds (cannabinoids or phytocannabinoids), which have been extensively studied since the discovery of the chemical structure of tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), commonly known as THC, the main constituent responsible for the plant’s psychoactive effects. An additionally important cannabinoid of current interest is Cannabidiol (CBD). There has been a significant interest in CBD and CBD oil (extract of CBD rich Cannabis) over the last few years because of its reported activity as an antiepileptic agent, particularly its potential use in the treatment of intractable epilepsy in children
