أستاذ علم الأعصاب والطب النفسي في جامعة كولومبيا. تلقى تعليمه ولقد عانى فى البدايه حيث دخل مدرسه داخليه هو وشقيقه وكان ذلك دون علم اسرته ،ثم ذهب الى مدرسه سانت بول بلندن ،وتلقى تعليمه الى ان حصل على بكالوريوس فى علم الاعضاء وعلم الاحياء،واكمل دراسته ليحصل على الماجستير لكى يؤهل نفسه لممارسه الطب ،ثم غادر انجلترا الى كندا ثم منها الى الولايات المتحده ،والتى كانت تعد خطوه ايجابيه نحو مسار وظيفى مختلف تماما عما كان يعهده ،ولقد عمل بمستشفى صهيون فى سان فرانسيسكو ،وفى جامعه كاليفورنيا ،ولقد كافح الى ان صار طبيا فى الاعصاب وكاتبا وصيدلى ،وحصل على منصب استاذا علم الاعصاب بجامعه نيويورك للطب ،ثم بعدها حصل على عددمن المناصب فى عدد من الجامعات للطب ،ولقد الف الكثير من الكتب التى حصلت على اكثر مبيعا ،ثم قام بعدها بعدد من الدراسات على مجموعه من حالات الناس الذين يعانون من اضطرابات عصبيه ،ولقد حصل على تكريم فى ذكرى وفاته فى اسهاماته الواضحه والمتميزه فى دعم العلاج بالموسيقى وتاثير هذه الموسيقى على الدماغ البشرى ،ولقد منحته جامعه اكسفورد الدكتوراه الفخريه فى القانون المدنى ،كما حصل على منصب (كولومبيا الفنان )،ولقد كانت إنجازاته سببا فى حصوله على عدد كبير من الجوائز التى تشهد بعلمه وتفوقه فى مجاله الطبى .
