John Leroy Hennessy (geboren am 22. September 1952) ist ein amerikanischer Informatiker, Akademiker und Geschäftsmann, der als Vorsitzender von Alphabet Inc. fungiert. Hennessy ist einer der Gründer von MIPS Computer Systems Inc. sowie von Atheros und diente als zehnter Präsident von Universität in Stanford. Hennessy kündigte seinen Rücktritt im Sommer 2016 an. Sein Nachfolger als Präsident wurde Marc Tessier-Lavigne. Marc Andreessen nannte ihn „den Paten des Silicon Valley“.
Zusammen mit David Patterson erhielt Hennessy den Turing Award 2017 für ihre Arbeit bei der Entwicklung der Computerarchitektur mit reduziertem Befehlssatz (RISC), die heute in 99 % aller neuen Computerchips verwendet wird
