Toby Wilkinson trat im Juli 2011 dem International Strategy Office bei und arbeitete mit der Pro-Vizekanzlerin (Jennifer Barnes) zusammen, um die Schulen, Fakultäten und Abteilungen bei ihren internationalen Engagements zu unterstützen und die internationale Strategie der Universität zu entwickeln, insbesondere im Hinblick auf Forschungskooperationen und -beziehungen mit der EU, den USA, Indien und China. Zuvor war Dr. Wilkinson Entwicklungsdirektor am Clare College sowie Vorsitzender der Cambridge Colleges Development Group.
Als anerkannter Experte für altägyptische Zivilisation und einer der führenden Ägyptologen seiner Generation hat Toby Wilkinson auf der ganzen Welt Vorträge gehalten. Er hat an den ägyptischen Stätten Buto und Memphis ausgegraben. Er ist Mitglied der Redaktion des Journal of Egyptian History und hat in Großbritannien und im Ausland im Radio und Fernsehen gesendet, darunter BBCs Horizon und Private Lives of the Pharaohs von Channel 4, und war Berater für den preisgekrönten Dokumentarfilm der BBC über den Bau der Großen Pyramide.
Nach seinem Abschluss an der University of Cambridge erhielt er den Thomas-Mulvey-Preis der Universität und wurde in das renommierte Lady Wallis Budge Junior Research Fellowship in Ägyptologie gewählt. Er ist Fellow des Clare College der University of Cambridge und Honorary Research Fellow am Department of Archaeology der University of Durham.
