Er ist vor allem für das Schreiben seines postapokalyptischen Romans Bird Box bekannt, der die Inspiration für den Netflix-Film Bird Box war. 2020 gründete er mit Manager Ryan Lewis die Produktionsfirma Spin a Black Yarn; Ihr erster Film We Need to Do Something wurde während der COVID-19-Pandemie heimlich gedreht.
