Er ist auch Gewinner des Chinese Nebula Award. In englischen Übersetzungen seiner Werke wird sein Name als Cixin Liu angegeben. Er ist Mitglied der China Science Writers Association und Vizepräsident der Shanxi Writers Association. Er wird auch "Da Liu" ("Big Liu") genannt.
