Von 1982 bis 1984 und erneut von 1993 bis 1994 war er Fulbright-Seniorprofessor für Philosophie und Linguistik an der Fudan-Universität in Shanghai, wo er jetzt Senior Consulting Professor ist, und gleichzeitig Gastprofessor für Religionswissenschaft an der Brown University.
