Sie waren als Professoren an der Akademie für Betriebswirtschaftslehre bzw. als Schriftsteller tätig. Clares Großvater mütterlicherseits war der Filmproduzent Max Rosenberg. Claire ist Jüdin, aber sie beschreibt ihre Familie als nicht religiös. Als Kind reiste Clare viel und verbrachte Zeit in der Schweiz, in England und Frankreich.
