Claude Lévi-Strauss (französisch: Claude Lévi-Strauss); (28. November 1908 - 30. Oktober 2009), französischer Soziologe. Lévi-Strauss begann seine Ausbildung mit einem Studium der Philosophie, aber diese willkürlichen abstrakten Theorien fernab der sozialen Realität enttäuschten ihn bald, so dass er nach Brasilien reiste, wo er Soziologie lehrte und die Werke amerikanischer Anthropologen (damals in Europa unbekannt) entdeckte, wie z Boas, Cropper und Louie. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Frankreich im Jahr 1948 legte er seine Dissertation über die theoretischen Probleme der Verwandtschaft vor. 1959 wurde er zum Professor am Collège de France gewählt und hatte dort den Lehrstuhl für Sozialanthropologie inne, den vor ihm Marcel Mauss innehatte. Die Arbeit und Wissenschaft von Lévi-Strauss hatte den größten Einfluss auf dem Gebiet der Anthropologie und der ethnologischen Feldforschung.
