Bashar Saad ist Professor für Zellbiologie und Immunologie an der arabisch-amerikanischen Universität. Er hat an der Universität Zürich in Biochemie promoviert und war Postdoc am Institut für Neurobiologie der ETH Zürich, wo er auch als Senior Scientist am Institut für Toxikologie tätig war. Später war er als leitender Wissenschaftler im Bereich Tissue Engineering am Institut für Polymere der ETH Zürich und in der Forschungsabteilung, Abt. der Chirurgie, UniversitätsSpital Zürich. Er hat maßgeblich dazu beigetragen, Zellbiologie, Immunologie und 3D-Zellkulturtechniken mit arabisch-islamischer Kräuterweisheit zu verbinden. Seine Forschungsinteressen umfassen die entzündungshemmenden und krebshemmenden Eigenschaften von Heilpflanzen. Er hat mehr als achtzig Originalarbeiten sowie Übersichtsartikel und Buchkapitel zur arabisch-islamischen Kräutermedizin verfasst. Er ist Autor des ersten wissenschaftlichen Buches über arabische und islamische Kräutermedizin, das 2011 von John Wiley veröffentlicht wurde. Letzten Monat veröffentlichte er sein drittes Buch „Medicinal Plants and their Active Compounds for Diabetes and Obesity Prevention and Treatment. Erschienen bei Springer, 2017“ Diese Arbeit stellt eine systematische Übersicht über die traditionelle Kräutermedizin und ihre Wirkstoffe sowie deren Wirkungsmechanismen in der Prävention und Behandlung von Diabetes und Adipositas dar.
