Michael Paul Todaro (* 14. Mai 1942) ist ein US-amerikanischer Ökonom und ein Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Entwicklungsökonomie. Todaro promovierte 1968 in Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der Yale University mit einer Arbeit mit dem Titel The Urban Employment Problem in Less Developed Countries – An Analysis of Demand and Supply. Todaro war 18 Jahre lang Professor für Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der New York University und 30 Jahre lang Senior Associate beim Population Council. Er lebte und lehrte sechs Jahre in Afrika. Er erscheint in Who is Who in Economics and Economists of the Twentieth Century. Er ist außerdem Autor von acht Büchern und mehr als fünfzig Fachartikeln. In einer Sonderausgabe zum hundertjährigen Jubiläum vom Februar 2011 wählte die American Economic Review Todaros Artikel „Migration, Arbeitslosigkeit und Entwicklung: Eine 2-Sektor-Analyse“ (mit John Harris) als einen der zwanzig wichtigsten Artikel aus, die von dieser Zeitschrift während der ersten hundert veröffentlicht wurden Jahre seines Bestehens. Er ist Mitautor des weit verbreiteten Lehrbuchs Economic Development, 12. Auflage, das 2014 veröffentlicht wurde.
