Robert Louis Stevenson wurde am 13. November in Schottland geboren und ist ein schottischer Schriftsteller, Dichter, Essayist und Autor, der sich auf Reiseliteratur spezialisiert hat. Stevenson wurde von vielen Schriftstellern wie Jorge Luis Borges bewundert. Robert Lewis studierte Ingenieurwissenschaften, den Beruf seines Vaters, an der University of Edinburgh, interessierte sich jedoch nicht für das Fach. 1871 wechselte er sein Studium auf Jura. Aber er wusste, dass er auch Schriftsteller werden wollte. Nach dem Studium besuchte Robert Louis Frankreich, Belgien und die Vereinigten Staaten und schrieb über diese Reisen. Stevenson wurde Vollzeitschriftsteller. Die meisten seiner frühen Schriften waren Kurzgeschichten und Reisebücher. Er wurde berühmt, als er Treasure Island schrieb, sein erstes langes Werk. Andere berühmte Bücher waren Dr. Jekyll und Mr. Hyde (1886) und Kidnapped (1886).
