Ramez Al-Masry (* 20. Oktober 1950 in Gizeh, Ägypten) ist ein renommierter Informatiker und Forscher auf dem Gebiet von Datenbanksystemen. Er ist außerdem Professor und Associate Chair am Department of Computer Science and Engineering an der University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas. Al-Masri ist Autor von „Basics of Database Systems“ (mit Shamkant Navath, erschienen bei Pearson, 7. Auflage, 2015). Sein Buch gilt seit 25 Jahren als eines der wegweisendsten Bücher im Bereich Datenbanksysteme weltweit. Die aktuelle Auflage des Buches stellt die siebte Auflage dar. Das Buch wurde ins Spanische, Deutsche, Französische, Italienische, Portugiesische, Chinesische, Koreanische, Griechische, Basquenchen (Baskisch) und Arabisch übersetzt. Sein Buch wird in Indien, Europa, Südafrika, Australien und Südostasien unterstützt und findet auch in den Vereinigten Staaten, Kanada und Südamerika viel Beachtung. Al-Masry arbeitet seit 1990 an der University of Texas at Arlington und hat 16 Doktorarbeiten und mehr als 200 Diplom- und Masterarbeiten betreut Al-Masry erhielt seinen Bachelor-Abschluss in Elektrotechnik (Computer und automatische Steuerung) von Alexandria University, Alexandria, Ägypten, und erwarb 1980 seinen Master und Doktortitel in Informatik an der Stanford University in Stanford, Kalifornien.

Elmasri, Levine, and Carrick's "spiral approach" to teaching operating systems develops student understanding of various OS components early on and helps students approach the more difficult aspects of operating systems with confidence.
