David Michael Buss (geboren am 14. April 1953) ist ein amerikanischer Evolutionspsychologe an der University of Texas in Austin, der geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede bei der Partnerwahl erforscht. Er gilt als einer der Begründer der Evolutionspsychologie. Buss promovierte 1981 in Psychologie an der University of California, Berkeley. Bevor er Professor an der University of Texas wurde, war er vier Jahre lang Assistenzprofessor an der Harvard University und elf Jahre lang Professor an der University of Michigan. Zu den Hauptthemen seiner Forschung gehören männliche Paarungsstrategien, Konflikte zwischen den Geschlechtern, sozialer Status, soziales Ansehen, Prestige, das Gefühl der Eifersucht, Tötungsdelikte, Abwehrmaßnahmen gegen Tötungsdelikte und – in jüngster Zeit – Stalking. Stanley Hall Lectureship im Jahr 1990.
