About Paul Bolstad

Books review of author Paul Bolstad pdf

I'm a professor at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I've worked here since 1995, with prior stints at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Assistant Professor), the University of Wisconsin (Ph.D., Institute of Environment), Colombia (Research Forester, Pizano, S.A.), North Carolina State University (M.Sc., Forestry), the University of Massachusetts (field lackey) and U.C. Berkeley (B.Sc., Forestry). I've been called an ecosystems ecologist, a geographer, a forester, a geomaticist, and a modeler, and these descriptions are all partly true. My work spans these disciplines, and I've had the good fortune of collaborating with clever people in all these fields. My teaching focuses on spatial data collection and environmental analysis, primarily in a large introductory course in GIS, in various advanced courses in the science and technologies of GIS, and in the occasional course in ecosystems ecology. Much of my research has focused on water and carbon cycling from leaf to regional scales, mostly in forest ecosystems, and mostly in Lake States and Southern Appalachian forests. Another major focus is the development and application of remote sensing and spatial analysis to quantify vegetation structure and human landscape disturbances, most recently with discrete-return, high resolution LiDAR.
