He is one of Germany's most distinguished writers, who left a huge literary and cultural legacy for the German and international library, and had a great impact on poetic, literary and philosophical life. Between the novel, theatrical writing and poetry, he excelled in each of them. He was interested in oriental culture and literature and reviewed many books. He was broad-minded, coming to science, in-depth in his studies. In view of the literary status represented by Goethe, his name was given to the most famous institute for spreading German culture around the world, which is the "Goethe Institute", which is the only cultural center of the Federal Republic of Germany that extends its activity worldwide, and a number of statues were sculpted for it. His works include The Passion of Young Werther 1774 (a novel in the form of letters) The Accomplices 1787 (sitcom) Gottes von Berlichingen with the Iron Hand 1773 (play) Prometheus 1774 (poems) Clavigo 1774 (tragic play) Egmont 1775 (tragic play) Stella 1776 (play) Iphigena in Taurus 1779 (play) Torquato Tasso 1780 (play) Faust (a two-part poetic epic) From My Life..Poetry and Truth 1811/1831 (Biography) The Italian Journey 1816 (A Biography of His Journey in Italy) Roman Elegies 1788/1790 Poems)

Book Description

Faust pdf by Johann Goethe

A major new translation of one of the greatest dramatic-poetic works in all of German literature A magnificent drama shaped by themes of redemption and salvation, Faust is the magnum opus of Goethe, ''the last true polymath to walk the earth'' (George Eliot). As his journey continues, Faust follows Mephistopheles through ancient Greek mythology. Deeply smitten by the incomparably beautiful Helen of Troy, Faust marries Helen, embodying for Goethe his ''imaginative longing to join poetically the Romantic medievalism of the Germanic West to the classical genius of the Greeks.'' Faust, Part II even includes eerie premonitions of such modern phenomena as inflation and the creation of life by scientific synthesis.
