Goethe: A famous German writer, novelist, storyteller and poet, who has made a great contribution to world literature, especially German. Goethe traveled to Italy in 1786 and stayed there for about a year and a half. He himself considered this trip a turning point in his life. Where his personality was influenced by Italian art and literature, in which he wrote the plays "Iphigenia", "Egmont" and "Tasso". Goethe was influenced by Arabic literature since his youth; At the age of twenty-three he composed a poem in praise of the Prophet “Muhammad”, and his relationship with Eastern, Persian and Arabic literature was strengthened by him, especially after the age of sixty. Where he studied the poetry of "Hafez al-Shirazi" as a translator, and was acquainted with the customs and history of the East, with the help of some orientalists, because he was not fluent in Arabic. Goethe has many books, the most famous of which are: “The Sorrows of Werther”, “Faust”, “The Eastern Divan of the Western Author”, “Selected Genealogy”, “Tasso”, and “The Lover’s Caprice”. Sobre o autor
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe nasceu em Frankfurt, em 1749. Representante maior da literatura alemã, publicou, entre muitas outras obras, Os sofrimentos do jovem Werther (1774), Os anos de aprendizado de Wilhelm Meister (1796), a primeira parte do Fausto (1808), As afinidades eletivas (1809), Os anos de peregrinação de Wilhelm Meister (1821-1829), Viagem à Itália (1816-1829), a autobiografia Poesia e verdade (1811-1831) e uma coletânea de 250 poemas amorosos, Divã ocidental-oriental (1819). Após sessenta anos de trabalho, Goethe concluiu a segunda parte do Fausto poucos meses antes de morrer, a 22 de março de 1832, em Weimar.
Sobre o ilustrador
O mais célebre pintor romântico francês do século XIX, Eugène Delacroix nasceu em Charenton-Saint Maurice, perto de Paris, a 26 de abril de 1798. Estudou na École des Beaux-Arts, identificada ao Neoclassicismo, então a arte oficial do Império, mas desde cedo manifestou maior afinidade com as composições tumultuadas de Rubens do com o equilíbrio e serenidade de Rafael, então em voga. Assim, afastou-se progressivamente dos modelos neoclássicos, ligando-se sobretudo a Théodore Géricault (1791-1824).
Suas telas mais famosas são Dante e Virgílio nas regiões infernais (1822), O massacre de Scio (1824), As mulheres de Argel (1834) e, sobretudo, A Liberdade guiando o povo (1831).
Morreu em 13 de agosto de 1863. Seu Diário, publicado em 1893-95, será reconhecido como um dos mais penetrantes registros já feitos por um artista acerca de suas próprias concepções da arte, da poesia, da música e da pintura.
