Maury Aaseng is an American illustrator who graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BFA degree in Graphic Design and began working as a freelance illustrator in San Diego, California, where he created drawings for young, non-fictional adults. Soon, his work expanded to the field of medical and anatomical illustration. He now enjoys collaborating with authors and experts in various medical fields to create vivid, clear illustrations for publications that illuminate essential concepts for the health, body, and nature sciences. Maury Aaseng currently resides in Duluth, Minnesota with his wife and two children near the shores of Lake Superior. His work first gained recognition at the Upstream People Gallery in 2008, and recently in 2016 a collection of his aquatic works titled Saturated Life was shown at the Great Lakes Aquarium. He has taught classes covering science illustration and nature-inspired watercolors, and in recent years has leveraged his experience creating books illustrating techniques for other emerging artists.
