Melissa de la Cruz (nacida en 1971) es una escritora filipina-estadounidense conocida por la ficción para adultos jóvenes. Sus series para adultos jóvenes incluyen Au Pairs, Blue Bloods y The Beauchamp Family.
Melissa de la Cruz nació en Manila, Filipinas y dice que ha querido ser autora desde que tenía once años.
Emigró a los Estados Unidos con su familia cuando tenía 13 años, en 1985, y se establecieron en San Francisco, donde se graduó de Convent of the Sacred Heart High School. Luego estudió historia del arte e inglés en la Universidad de Columbia en la ciudad de Nueva York.
Después de graduarse, trabajó como consultora informática.
De La Cruz escribió su primera novela de larga duración a los 22 años mientras vivía en la ciudad de Nueva York y trabajaba en Bankers Trust.
Esa novela finalmente no se vendió, pero un editor de Little, Brown le sugirió que se convirtiera en periodista para trabajar en sus créditos de escritura profesional.
Comenzó a trabajar como independiente y publicó su primer ensayo en New York Press en 1996. También trabajó como editora de belleza y moda hasta que vendió su primera novela, The Cat's Meow, en 1998.
De la Cruz ha publicado artículos en periódicos como The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, Teen Vogue y Harper's Magazine.
Después de la publicación de su primera novela en 2001 y su despido del banco de inversión estadounidense Morgan Stanley, se dedicó a escribir a tiempo completo.
