David Michael Buss (nacido el 14 de abril de 1953) es un psicólogo evolutivo estadounidense de la Universidad de Texas en Austin que investiga las diferencias sexuales humanas en la selección de pareja. Es considerado uno de los fundadores de la psicología evolutiva.
Buss obtuvo su doctorado en psicología en la Universidad de California, Berkeley en 1981. Antes de convertirse en profesor en la Universidad de Texas, fue profesor asistente durante cuatro años en la Universidad de Harvard y profesor en la Universidad de Michigan durante once años.
Los temas principales de su investigación incluyen las estrategias de apareamiento de los machos, el conflicto entre sexos, el estatus social, la reputación social, el prestigio, la emoción de los celos, el homicidio, las defensas contra el homicidio y, más recientemente, el acecho. Todos estos se abordan desde una perspectiva evolutiva.
