Chloe Gong (née le 16 décembre 1998) est une auteure néo-zélandaise d'origine chinoise de fiction pour jeunes adultes. Son premier roman de 2020, Ces délices violents, était un best-seller du New York Times.
Gong est née à Shanghai, en Chine, et a déménagé en Nouvelle-Zélande avec sa famille à l'âge de deux ans.
Elle a une sœur et un frère plus jeunes. Elle a grandi sur la côte nord à Auckland, en Nouvelle-Zélande, et a fréquenté le Rangitoto College.
Tout en grandissant en Nouvelle-Zélande, Gong a été immergé dans la culture chinoise à la maison, parlant le shanghaien, cuisinant des plats chinois et célébrant les fêtes chinoises.
Gong a commencé à écrire des livres à l'âge de 13 ans en utilisant l'application Notes sur son iPad.
En décembre 2020, elle a écrit neuf livres, environ un manuscrit par an. À partir de 2020, Gong avait une double spécialisation en anglais et en relations internationales à l'Université de Pennsylvanie.
Gong a écrit son premier roman de 2020, Ces délices violents, en mai 2018 après sa première année d'université. Le livre présente une histoire de Roméo et Juliette des années 1920 se déroulant à Shanghai. À l'âge de 21 ans, Gong est devenue l'une des plus jeunes écrivaines à avoir écrit une couverture rigide pour jeunes adultes sur la liste des meilleures ventes du New York Times. Elle a remporté le prix du meilleur roman jeunesse aux Sir Julius Vogel Awards 2021 pour These Violent Delights. La suite, Our Violent Ends, est sortie en novembre 2021. Gong écrit également une duologie dérivée qui suit "un personnage familier" de These Violent Delights. Le premier livre de la duologie dérivée, Foul Lady Fortune, devrait sortir à l'automne 2022.
En novembre 2021, Gong a annoncé sa première trilogie fantastique pour adultes, inspirée d'Antoine et Cléopâtre de Shakespeare et de la ville fortifiée de Kowloon en Chine.
Le premier livre de la trilogie, Immortal Longings, sortira à l'été 2023.
