Paulo Davim a obtenu son doctorat. diplôme en génie mécanique en 1997, M.Sc. diplôme en génie mécanique (matériaux et procédés de fabrication) en 1991, diplôme en génie mécanique (5 ans) en 1986, de l'Université de Porto (FEUP), le titre agrégé (Habilitation complète) de l'Université de Coimbra en 2005 et le D. Sc. (Doctorat supérieur) de la London Metropolitan University en 2013. Il est ingénieur senior agréé par l'Institution portugaise des ingénieurs avec un MBA et des titres de spécialiste en ingénierie et gestion industrielle ainsi qu'en métrologie. Il est également Eur Ing par la FEANI-Bruxelles et Fellow (FIET) de l'IET-Londres. Actuellement, il est professeur au Département de génie mécanique de l'Université d'Aveiro, au Portugal. Il est également distingué comme professeur honoraire dans plusieurs universités/collèges. The term ‘surface integrity’ is used to describe the attributes of a machined surface and its relationship to functional performance.
