Elle est également bien connue pour The Spiderwick Chronicles, une série de livres fantastiques pour enfants qu'elle a créés avec l'écrivain et illustrateur Tony DiTerlizzi, et sa première trilogie de romans pour jeunes adultes officiellement intitulée Modern Faerie Tales. Black a obtenu un B.A. en anglais du College of New Jersey en 1994.
