George Samuel Clason était un auteur américain. Il est le plus souvent associé à son livre The Richest Man in Babylon qui a été publié pour la première fois en 1926. Clason est né en Louisiane, Missouri, le 7 novembre 1874. Il a fréquenté l'Université du Nebraska. Il a servi dans l'armée américaine pendant la guerre hispano-américaine. George a lancé deux sociétés, la Clason Map Company de Denver, Colorado et la Clason Publishing Company. La Clason Map Company a été la première à publier un atlas routier des États-Unis et du Canada, mais n'a pas survécu à la Grande Dépression. Clason est surtout connu pour avoir écrit une série de brochures d'information sur l'économie et la réussite financière. Il a commencé à écrire les brochures en 1926, en utilisant des paraboles qui se déroulaient dans l'ancienne Babylone. Les banques et les compagnies d'assurance ont commencé à distribuer les paraboles, et les plus célèbres ont été compilées dans le livre L'homme le plus riche de Babylone - Les secrets du succès des anciens.
