Robert Louis Stevenson, né en Écosse le 13 novembre, est un romancier, poète, essayiste et écrivain écossais spécialisé dans la littérature de voyage. Stevenson était admiré par de nombreux écrivains, tels que Jorge Luis Borges. Robert Lewis a étudié l'ingénierie, la profession de son père, à l'Université d'Édimbourg, mais n'était pas intéressé par le sujet. En 1871, il réoriente ses études vers le droit. Mais il savait qu'il voulait aussi être écrivain. Après l'université, Robert Louis a visité la France, la Belgique et les États-Unis et a écrit sur ces voyages. Stevenson est devenu un écrivain à temps plein. La plupart de ses premiers écrits étaient des nouvelles et des livres de voyage. Il est devenu célèbre lorsqu'il a écrit Treasure Island, sa première longue œuvre de fiction. D'autres livres célèbres étaient Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) et Kidnapped (1886).
