En 1969, il a commencé une association de neuf ans avec Maharishi Mahesh Yogi avant de commencer sa carrière en tant qu'auteur et conseiller en relations personnelles. En 1969, Gray a assisté à une conférence de Méditation Transcendantale, devenant plus tard célibataire et assistant personnel de Maharishi Mahesh Yogi pendant neuf ans.

Gray écrit une chronique syndiquée aux États-Unis avec 30 millions de lecteurs qui apparaît dans The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, New York Daily News, New York Newsday, The Denver Post et San Antonio Express-News.
