David Michael Buss (né le 14 avril 1953) est un psychologue évolutionniste américain de l'Université du Texas à Austin, qui étudie les différences sexuelles humaines dans la sélection des partenaires. Il est considéré comme l'un des fondateurs de la psychologie évolutionniste. Buss a obtenu son doctorat en psychologie à l'Université de Californie à Berkeley en 1981. Avant de devenir professeur à l'Université du Texas, il a été professeur adjoint pendant quatre ans à l'Université de Harvard et professeur à l'Université du Michigan pendant onze ans. Les principaux sujets de ses recherches comprennent les stratégies d'accouplement masculin, les conflits entre les sexes, le statut social, la réputation sociale, le prestige, l'émotion de la jalousie, l'homicide, les défenses anti-homicide et, plus récemment, le harcèlement. Tous ces éléments sont abordés dans une perspective évolutive. Buss est l'auteur de plus de 200 articles scientifiques et a remporté de nombreux prix, dont un APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology en 1988 et un APA G. Stanley Hall Lectureship en 1990. Il est également l'auteur de Evolutionary Psychology: The New Science of the Mind, dont la quatrième édition est sortie en 2011. En 2005, Buss a édité un volume de référence, The Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology. Son dernier livre est When Men Behave Badly: The Hidden Roots of Sexual Deception, Harassment, and Assault. Sexual harassment in the workplace, date rape, and domestic violence dominate the headlines and have recently sparked scholarly debates about the nature of the sexes.
