Henry Rosemont ha ricevuto il suo dottorato di ricerca. in filosofia all'Università di Washington, e ha proseguito gli studi post-dottorato in linguistica (e politica) con Noam Chomsky al MIT. Le sue aree di ricerca e scrittura sono la filosofia e la religione cinesi, in particolare il primo confucianesimo, la teoria morale e politica, la filosofia della religione e la filosofia del linguaggio. Ha scritto A Chinese Mirror (1991), Rationality & Religious Experience (2001), e con Huston Smith, Is There a Universal 'Grammar' of Religion? (2007). Ha curato e/o tradotto altri dieci libri, tra cui Explorations in Early Chinese Cosmology (1984), Leibniz: Writings on China (con D.J. Cook, 1994), Chinese Texts & Philosophical Contexts, e con Roger T.Ames, The Analects of Confucius: A Philosophical Translation (1998) e The Classic of Family Reverence (2008). Dal 1982-84, e di nuovo nel 1993-94, è stato Fulbright Senior Professor of Philosophy & Linguistics alla Fudan University di Shanghai, dove ora è Senior Consulting Professor, e contemporaneamente Visiting Professor of Religious Studies alla Brown University.
