I suoi libri hanno venduto più di 400 milioni di copie ed è stata la prima persona a vendere 1 milione di e-book. Nel 2016, Patterson è in cima alla lista di Forbes degli autori più pagati per il terzo anno consecutivo, con un reddito di 95 milioni di dollari.
