Leslie Thomas, OBE (22 marzo 1931-6 maggio 2014) è stato un autore gallese noto per il suo romanzo a fumetti The Virgin Soldiers.

Thomas è nato a Newport, Monmouthshire, Galles. Rimase orfano all'età di 12 anni, quando suo padre marinaio si perse in mare e sua madre morì solo pochi mesi dopo di cancro. Successivamente è stato allevato in una casa del dottor Barnardo; la storia di questa educazione è stata l'argomento del suo primo libro autobiografico, This Time Next Week.

Thomas ha frequentato la Kingston Technical School e poi ha seguito un corso di giornalismo al South-West Essex Technical College di Walthamstow. Nel 1949 fu chiamato al servizio nazionale e intraprese un turno di servizio di due anni a Singapore con il Royal Army Pay Corps. Mentre era lì è stato brevemente coinvolto nell'azione militare contro i ribelli comunisti nell'emergenza malese. Iniziò anche a scrivere brevi articoli per la pubblicazione su giornali inglesi.

Al suo ritorno in Inghilterra nel 1951, Thomas riprese il suo lavoro per il gruppo di giornali locali nel nord di Londra dove aveva lavorato prima del suo servizio nazionale, ma nel giro di cinque anni lavorò per l'agenzia di stampa Exchange Telegraph, ora Extel, e infine con il Il quotidiano London Evening News, prima come sottoredattore, poi come giornalista. Historians of the Second World War have hitherto omitted to mention that the first British raid on German-occupied France took place within four months of Dunkirk. It happened at midnight on September 21st, 1940, the landing being made at the small fishing town of Granville, in Normandy.
