Aldous Leonard Huxley (26 luglio 1894-22 novembre 1963) è stato uno scrittore e filosofo inglese.
Ha scritto quasi 50 libri, sia romanzi che saggi, oltre a saggi, narrazioni e poesie di ampio respiro.
Nato nell'importante famiglia Huxley, si è laureato in letteratura inglese al Balliol College di Oxford. All'inizio della sua carriera, ha pubblicato racconti e poesie e ha curato la rivista letteraria Oxford Poetry, prima di pubblicare scritti di viaggio, satira e sceneggiature. Trascorse l'ultima parte della sua vita negli Stati Uniti, vivendo a Los Angeles dal 1937 fino alla sua morte.
Alla fine della sua vita, Huxley era ampiamente riconosciuto come uno dei più importanti intellettuali del suo tempo.
È stato nominato nove volte per il Premio Nobel per la letteratura ed è stato eletto Companion of Literature dalla Royal Society of Literature nel 1962.
Huxley era un pacifista.
Si interessò al misticismo filosofico, così come all'universalismo, affrontando questi argomenti con opere come The Perennial Philosophy (1945), che illustra i punti in comune tra il misticismo occidentale e quello orientale, e The Doors of Perception (1954), che interpreta la propria esperienza psichedelica con mescalina. Nel suo romanzo più famoso Brave New World (1932) e nel suo ultimo romanzo Island (1962), ha presentato rispettivamente la sua visione della distopia e dell'utopia.
Huxley completò il suo primo romanzo (non pubblicato) all'età di 17 anni e iniziò a scrivere seriamente poco più che ventenne, affermandosi come scrittore di successo e autore di satira sociale. I suoi primi romanzi pubblicati furono satire sociali, Crome Yellow (1921), Antic Hay (1923), Quelle foglie sterili (1925) e Point Counter Point (1928). Brave New World (1932) è stato il suo quinto romanzo e la prima opera distopica.
Negli anni '20 ha collaborato anche alle riviste Vanity Fair e British Vogue.

The novel that Aldous Huxley himself thought was his most successful at "fusing idea with story," Time Must Have a Stop is part of Huxley's lifelong attempt to explore the dilemmas of twentieth-century man and to create characters who, though ill-equipped to solve the dilemmas, all go stumbling on in their painfully serious comedies (in this novel we have the dead atheist who returns in a seance to reveal what he has learned after death but is stuck with a second-rate medium who garbles his messages).
Time Must Have a Stop is one of Huxley's finest achievements.
