Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field with a long and distinguished history that includes many countries and dates back largely to before the development of computers. It can be traced back at least to ancient Greece and has evolved over time into a major sub-field of computer science in general. This modern questionnaire not only serves as a “position paper” in the field from the point of view of the expert members of the 12 IFIP Technical Committee and its working groups and their colleagues, but also provides overviews of current work in various countries.
