Elias Canetti (25 Temmuz 1905 - 14 Ağustos 1994), Bulgaristan'ın Ruse kentinde Sefarad bir ailenin çocuğu olarak dünyaya gelen Almanca yazan bir yazardı. İngiltere'nin Manchester kentine taşındılar, ancak babası 1912'de öldü ve annesi üç oğlunu anakara Avrupa'ya götürdü. Viyana'ya yerleştiler.

Canetti, 1938'de Anschluss'tan sonra Nazi zulmünden kaçmak için İngiltere'ye taşındı. 1952'de İngiliz vatandaşı oldu. Romancı, oyun yazarı, anı yazarı ve kurgusal olmayan yazar olarak bilinir. 1981 Nobel Edebiyat Ödülü'nü "geniş bakış açısı, fikir zenginliği ve sanatsal gücüyle ilgili yazılarından dolayı" aldı.
