William McGurry (8 Aralık 1951 doğumlu), seyahat, İngilizce ve bilim gibi konularda kurgusal olmayan kitapların İngiliz Amerikalı yazarıdır. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde doğdu, yetişkin yaşamının çoğu için İngiltere'de ikamet etti, 1995 ile 2003 yılları arasında Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'ne döndü ve hem Amerikan hem de İngiliz vatandaşlığına sahip. 2005-2011 yılları arasında Durham Üniversitesi Rektörü olarak görev yaptı.

Bryson, İngiltere'de bir keşif olan Küçük Bir Adadan Notlar (1995) adlı televizyon dizisini yayınlayarak ve ona eşlik ederek Birleşik Krallık'ta öne çıktı. Erişilebilir bilimsel iletişimi nedeniyle büyük beğeni toplayan bir kitap olan Hemen hemen Her Şeyin Kısa Tarihi (2003) yayımlanmasıyla bir kez daha geniş çapta tanınırlık kazandı.
