Fizik alanında yüksek lisans derecesini 1975'te Aligarh, Hindistan'daki Aligarh Muslim Üniversitesi'nden aldı; Doktorasını 1979'da Kalküta Üniversitesi, Kalküta, Hindistan'dan; 1983'te Oxford Üniversitesi, Oxford, Birleşik Krallık'tan DPhil'i. Ayrıca 1983'ten 1985'e kadar Oxford Üniversitesi Clarendon Laboratuvarı'nda 1851 Sergisi için Kraliyet Komisyonu'nda doktora sonrası araştırma görevlisiydi. Wolfson Koleji, Oxford. Clarendon Laboratuvarı'nda eğitmen ve laboratuvar eğitmeniydi. Ayrıca Linkoping Üniversitesi, Linkoping, İsveç'te misafir öğretim üyesiydi; Max Planck Enstitüsü Stuttgart, Almanya. 1987'de Kalküta'daki Jadavpur Üniversitesi'ne elektronik ve telekomünikasyon mühendisliği alanında bölge uzmanı olarak katıldı. Daha sonra, 1996-1999 yılları arasında Bengal Mühendislik Bilim Üniversitesi (BESU) Fen Fakültesi Fizik Bölümü başkanı ve profesör oldu. Daha sonra bir kez daha Jadavpur Üniversitesi ETCE Bölümüne profesör olarak katıldı. Tokyo Teknoloji Enstitüsü, Japonya ve Hong Kong Üniversitesi, Hong Kong gibi birçok üniversitede misafir öğretim üyesi olarak görev yaptı. 1999 yılından bu yana Elektronik Bölümü'nde profesör olarak görev yapmaktadır.
