Howard Zinn (24 Ağustos 1922 - 27 Ocak 2010) Amerikalı tarihçi, oyun yazarı, filozof, sosyalist düşünür ve II. Spelman Koleji'nde tarih ve sosyal bilimler bölümünün başkanı ve Boston Üniversitesi'nde siyaset bilimi profesörüydü. Zinn, 1980'de en çok satan ve etkili A People's History of the United States dahil olmak üzere 20'den fazla kitap yazdı. 2007'de, A Young People's History of the United States adlı genç okuyucular için bir versiyonunu yayınladı.
Zinn kendisini "bir tür anarşist, biraz sosyalist. Belki bir demokratik sosyalist" olarak tanımladı. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin sivil haklar hareketi, savaş karşıtı hareketi ve emek tarihi hakkında kapsamlı yazılar yazdı. Anıları, Hareket Eden Bir Trende Tarafsız Olamazsınız (Beacon Press, 2002), aynı zamanda Zinn'in hayatı ve çalışması hakkında 2004 tarihli bir belgeselin başlığıydı. Zinn, 2010 yılında 87 yaşında kalp krizinden öldü.
Zinn, 24 Ağustos 1922'de Brooklyn'de Yahudi göçmen bir ailenin çocuğu olarak dünyaya geldi. Avusturya-Macaristan'da doğan babası Eddie Zinn, I. Dünya Savaşı'nın patlak vermesinden önce kardeşi Samuel ile ABD'ye göç etti. Annesi Jenny (Rabinowitz) ) Zinn, Doğu Sibirya şehri Irkutsk'tan göç etti. Ailesi ilk olarak aynı fabrikada işçi olarak tanışmış. Babası Büyük Buhran sırasında bir hendek kazıcı ve pencere temizleyicisi olarak çalıştı. Babası ve annesi kısa bir süre mahallede bir şekerci dükkânını işlettiler, zar zor geçindiler. Babası uzun yıllar garsonlar birliğindeydi ve düğünlerde ve bar mitzvalarında garson olarak çalıştı.
