27 Temmuz 1973'te İran'ın Tahran kentinde doğan Cassandra Clare, Amerikalı-İranlı-Amerikalı bir romancı ve genç kurgu yazarıdır. En çok 2007'den son bölümlerin 2014'te piyasaya sürüldüğü Ölümcül Oyuncaklar fantazi serisinin yazarlığıyla tanınır. Claire, İran'ın Tahran kentinde Amerikalı bir anne babanın çocuğu olarak Judith Rumelt olarak dünyaya geldi. Ebeveynleri Elizabeth ve Richard Romelt'tir. Sırasıyla İşletme Akademisi'nde profesör ve yazar olarak görev yaptılar.
Clare'in anne tarafından büyükbabası film yapımcısı Max Rosenberg'di. Claire Yahudidir, ancak ailesini dinsiz olarak tanımlar.
